Hives Take 2

I look at this picture from tonight after dinner & think.... he looks awful.  He just makes me want to cry!  Then I look at the next picture from earlier & think, ok maybe this is actually getting better.  I'm really glad I have this mornings pictures to compare to!  We are 2 doses of Benadryl in.  Maybe we are getting somewhere?  I'll give him another dose while he is half alseep before I crawl into bed & hopefully we'll look even better by morning.

Tonight
This Morning
 Gosh he looked horrible!!!

After a bath it looked even a little better yet.  But where some of the redness was, now looks like light bruises.  His whole belly, knees, elbows & arms.  I've never had hives.  Is that normal?!

As many people have mentioned to me....yes, this could also be Fifth Disease.  Which also would no longer be contageous.  But I'm not sold on that diagnosis.  His temp today has been 98.4 & the 99.6 from yesterday really isn't a fever for a wild running-playing boy.  His cheeks, besides being red from the hives, aren't the "slapped cheek" look.  Plus I'm learning about more & more realitives of mine with antibiotic allergies as the day goes on.  I guess if Hayden or Livi pops up with spots then maybe we'll reconsider.  I read the incubation period for 5th Disease can be up to 21 days, so we might have to wait 3 weeks to rule it out!

Seriously... I should have been a nurse in a pediatric clinic so I knew all about this stuff!!!

  1. Katie- I just had an attack of hives while on a sulfa-based antibiotic (Bactrim). It started first on my neck and chest and slowly worked it's way down my body. It took about a week to fully clear up. Here's hoping he's better soon!!! I can't even imagine trying to take care of him and two others!!! WOW!
